Gemini CLI

Not supported

Gemini CLI cannot connect to Deference because it speaks only the Gemini API.

Gemini CLI does not work with Deference.

Why it cannot connect

Gemini CLI sends only Gemini API requests. Deference serves OpenAI Chat Completions, OpenAI Responses and Anthropic Messages, so there is no route for Gemini CLI to call. Pointing it elsewhere with GOOGLE_GEMINI_BASE_URL changes the address, not the format.

Use Gemini models from another tool

Gemini models are in the catalog. Find them on Models and use them from a tool that speaks a supported format:

OpenCode, Cline and Zed use Chat Completions.
Codex uses Responses.
Claude Code uses Messages.
